EMMA PEINHOPF

Emma Peinhopf (b. 1999, Salzburg, Austria) lives and works in Vienna. She graduated from the University of Applied Arts Vienna in 2026, where she studied Drawing and Printmaking in the class of Jan Svenungsson.

Portraiture lies at the heart of Emma Peinhopf’s practice. In her new series, she visits people in their working environments and translates these encounters into large-scale coloured-pencil drawings. She is interested in how collaboration is inscribed in body postures, gazes, distances, and spatial constellations.

Alongside portraits of real people, colourful faces and fictional characters repeatedly appear in her work, either as drawings or as ceramic figures. Behind their apparent cuteness, they sometimes conceal expressions of irritation or suffering, opening up a broad emotional spectrum. Her work thus moves between realistic observation and emotionally charged, at times surreal, visual worlds. The works are created at Atelier @studio_date, whose name reflects the tension between cuteness and real-life encounters.
